HAVE A COFFEE WITH ME AT COFFEE SHOP CHRONICLES

People often imagine that stories begin with a flash of inspiration—a bolt of lightning that suddenly reveals an entire novel from beginning to end.

I wish it were that simple.

Coffee Shop Chronicles started a long time ago in my telling and sharing fantasies and love stories. The concept began with a feeling; it needed a setting.

Like so many people, I’ve always loved independent coffee shops. They’re places where time seems to slow down just enough for people to become themselves. We arrive carrying the weight of our day, order our favorite drink, and somehow leave a little lighter than when we came in.

One day I found myself wondering, How many stories have started over a cup of coffee?

Not just romances, although I’m certainly fond of those, but friendships, fresh beginnings, second chances, unexpected reunions, and the quiet courage to start life again.

That simple question became the seed from which the stories of Velvet Oakes began to grow.

Before long I could picture Blanche behind the counter, greeting everyone by name before they’d even reached the till. Henry was never far away with a dry joke ready to make everyone laugh. Then Diane arrived in town carrying more emotional baggage than the suitcase in her hand, searching not only for a new home but perhaps a new version of herself.

The town slowly built itself around them.

The little lake. The cottages. The local businesses. The familiar faces who wave as you walk down the street. Even with a possible new love for Diane, that is George, with his fascinating work taking him to jungles around the world, seemed determined to keep one foot firmly planted in Velvet Oakes.

I wanted to write stories where kindness mattered.

Where neighbors looked after one another.

Where love arrived gently instead of dramatically.

Where people were allowed to make mistakes and still find happiness.

Perhaps that’s because real life rarely gives us perfect fairy tales. It gives us ordinary days that become extraordinary because of the people we share them with.

If Coffee Shop Chronicles has one message, it’s simply this: home isn’t always the place where you were born. Sometimes it’s the place where someone remembers your name, pours your favorite coffee without asking, and saves you a seat by the window.

For me, that’s where every good story begins.

Big Kiss X
